Lucia the Swimmer

Ever since Alma got moved up to level 4 in swimming and Lucia remained in level 3, she has really been trying at her lessons hoping that she gets moved to the next level by the next session. Today she really pushed herself.

Practicing her jumps. First cannonball...

...then observation and instruction...

...then dive...and repeat.
Way to go Lucia!

Lucia Goes Bowling with her Troop

Another day, another year-end celebration. Today the celebration was with Lucia's Girl Scout Troop. They voted on bowling, so we headed on over to Bayonne to knock down some pins.

Lucia - the next King (or Queen) Pin

"Mom, this ball weighs almost as much as me"

The waiting games, sometimes her roll was so slow that it took a while for the ball to get down to the pins.

By the 7th or 8th frame she had her method down and even had a crazy closing dance...

..Which seemed to work because she finally got herself a spare. Look at that height.
It was a fun day for all. See you in the fall Troop #12563

Lucia the Gymnast

Now that Summer Fridays have begun at work , it gives me the opportunity to run errands, get my hair done, go to doctor visits and most importantly observe the kids at some of their weekly activities. Today I was lucky enough to get to see Lucia at her gymnastics class. She is in Novice 3 and I haven't actually gotten to see her do her stuff for over a year. Let's just say I was very impressed with her progress.

Little miss Lucia is the youngest and smallest in her class (she is in green second from the left), but that does not stop her from performing.

She is a little power house. She was the only one who could do this leap move on the first try. After she did it, the instructor told the others they had "no excuse"

She was also quite independent practicing her hand stands...

...flips and ...

...roll overs.

Nice round-off! I am both shocked and pleased at the progress she has made.
"Way to go Lucia!"

Lucia Goes to Central Park Zoo

As mentioned last week, now that the end of the school year is approaching, learning and teaching has gone from the classroom to the outside (field trips in particular). Last week, Eddie joined Mateo on his trip to Ellis Island. This week he, along with most other parents in her class, is chaperoning Lucia's class trip to the Central Park Zoo (another place, by the way, that he had never been to although he has lived in the area for almost his whole life).

Lucia said this was one of her favorite parts of the day- watching the slick seals hang out.

And also watching them do tricks with their trainer

Lucia spent most of her day hanging with Keira. As you can see, Keira's modeling background makes her a great poser. Lucia on the other hand...

...is cute, but a bit of a novice

3 Cute Bunnies

2 Cute Turtles.
From what I hear, they had a blast.

Mateo's "Nervous" Publishing Party

At Elysian it is quite common for different grades and classes to hold publishing parties which allow parents to come in and view their children's work. The parties normally focus on projects that the kids have been working on either solo or with a partner for weeks. Not only is it great for the parents, but it is also a nice opportunity for kids to be able to present their work to an audience. Today, Megan's 4th Grade class was focusing on the Human Body.

Papi and I went to check out Mateo's project which focused on the nervous system, for which we learned there are billions in the human body. The power point presentation was full of information as well as tricks with zooming titles and music. The kids love using all of the Power Point tricks.

Along with the presentation, the kids illustrated their specific topic in a life-sized cutout of the human body.

Mateo with partner Taiki should be very proud, they did a great job.
And we are done with publishing parties for this school year.
See you next year!

MLV Get Some Auntie Audris Time

Today was a lucky day for both Mommy and the kids because we had special visitors coming to town. Auntie Audris and Uncle Dennis were visiting for a wedding and were kind enough to come over today for a whole day's visit. So after some morning soccer practice for Lucia and a morning game for Mateo, we met up with them for lunch at Boardwalk which was followed by...

...a stroll through the Hoboken Arts and Music festival where Lucia got face painting done.
An angel? Hmmm, not sure about that. While she was having that done...

....Dennis and Mateo went to the park to play catch

Lucia joined in after and ...

...so did Auntie Audris for a few.

Boys of summer -Dennis and Mateo

Valentina, Mommy, Lucia, Auntie Audris along with (baby Shau in her tummy) and Mateo had a wonderful afternoon

Oh and so did Papi

Later that day, I took Auntie Audris out for  a yummy dinner at ABC Kitchen to celebrate her very belated 40th Birthday!!!
"Happy Birthday Audris! We love you to pieces!"
